What happens to the clothes that don't make the cut?

Giving Back

During my many years in the fashion industry I became extremely aware of the shift the industry was taking. Everything had to be produced faster and cheaper, all while making more money. Today, approximately 70% of clothes we throw away fill landfills, and the main reason we throw them away is simply because we no longer like them. We have become so inundated with fast fashion that it has prevented us from thinking about the toll it is taking on our environment.

The average person considers something old after only 20 washes, and at the rate we generally wash clothes, that is a very short life cycle. Clothing is only second to oil for being the largest polluter in the world, which is something I feel needs to be discussed more openly.

In the last 20 years, the amount of clothing thrown away has doubled, with a staggering increase from 7 million tons to 14 million tons and rising. There needs to be much more awareness made before consumers purchase clothing, and a far greater understanding of the long term effects of what throwing clothes away has on the planet. By keeping clothes for 2 years instead of just one year, can decrease clothing production and disposal emissions by over 20%.

When I created Mom Mode, I really wanted to be able to do my part to help women, and to also keep clothes out of landfills. I know how bodies change after having a baby, and how some clothes are just never going to fit the same again. That doesn’t mean they need to be thrown out. Most clothes in our closets are gently used at best, and there are so many amazing charities in the city that are dedicated to helping women during very difficult times.

Our services will have you feeling confident and prepared.

Women in abusive relationships often leave their home in the middle of the night to take their kids somewhere safe and they leave everything behind. These women really depend on clothing donations for job interviews and court appearances for custody. If I can help moms feel fabulous and bring their clothing donations to local charities so those moms can help other moms who really need it, and everyone in-turn keeps more clothing out of landfills, I have succeeded in what I set out to do!

What happens to the clothes that don't make the cut?

We’re passionate about helping less fortunate women get back on their feet.

That’s why we’re committed to working with local women shelters to provide clothing to women who don’t have access.

You’ll be helping to provide others with what they need to go on job interviews, in turn, providing a sustainable method of preventing discarded clothing from ending up in a landfill.
